God has taught us universal brotherhood and also detachment from this world. Which is the right choice? Why?

How is both possible? If we go for universal brotherhood then we cannot detach ourselves from everyone rather we should live with everyone. Which is the right way to live? Different religions may have different philosophies about it. Which is the right one?
