How to read and write Hebrew?

When writing words in Hebrew, they are backwards, correct? And what about vowels we use, do we just skip them and put the next consonant? Does anyone have a good website with help? I have an alphabet a friend gave me, but am not too sure how to write it out correctly with vowels and things
