Can any one describe the security checking procedure at the Kolkata (Calcutta) International Airport?

I read this report that someones PC and Mobile phones got stolen while the checking was going on, and I'm worried. I'll be carrying 2 cell phones, and I don't know, should I keep them in my hand luggage or in my pocket or what... I don't want to let them out of my sight during the checking. what to do? I've heard they search the hand luggage by a metal detector and only look into it. how do they check the cell phones? plz answer if u know...
