it doesn't mean you know about cross cultural taboo, but what they're saying is that you should know what it means to be a teenager anywhere - don't stand out. As for cultural taboos, it would be prevalent moreso in japan than in other places, however everyone has their own niche. once you find what group you belong to, you won't really be othered by them.
